Everyone knows fitness is good for you, but we’re a part of an increasingly sedentary culture. We spend a lot of time sitting, whether for work… or games. Since it’s harder and harder to get kids (and adults) pulled away from their video games, companies are starting to make exercise systems that allow you to get a workout without putting down your game controllers. The Kilowatt Sport, which can work with Playstation 1 or 2, Gamecube, or Xbox, is a device that lets you build muscle and burn fat while you’re navigating through a game course. You don’t have to buy special games for the device. The Kilowatt is actually compatible with a lot of existing games, such as X-men Legends, Bauldur’s Gate II, Fallout, and Brotherhood of Steel.
The price for this fitness gaming gizmo? $800. Even more than a gym membership, but if it gets you and your kids to exercise, maybe it’s worth the price.
The Adeo Fitness Trainer is a gadget that computes your total distance traveled, your average speeds, your elevation, your current and elapsed time, and the calories you’ve burned. The device is customizable for use when running, jogging, walking, or biking. At the end of the day, you can synch the Adeo with your computer to chart your progress over days, weeks, and months. It stores up to ten hours of workout data at a time, so even you marathon runners can use the trainer. For added motivation, you can turn on the audio cues that update you through earphones as you go (don’t worry… you can plug the Adeo into your favorite mp3 player, so you can have your music too).
The price is $149 from Adeo.
