The racket uses a bit of new technology: it can be strung in two ways. Inserts change the size of the string holes, so you can choose small openings or wide ports. The wide ports dampen the vibration to create a wider sweet spot. The small openings mimc the responsiveness of a traditional racket.

The Speedport will cost ya $220 if you’re interested.

Walking after dark can be dangerous, though, at least if there are any cars around. You can improve your chances of being seen by wearing reflective clothing, but there are also some gadgets you can get for your dog. Consider glow-in-the-dark collars, leashes, or perhaps something like this blinking LED collar light.

Xip3’s “Hybrid Revolution Gear” turns from jacket to backpack by flipping straps out from a pocket in the liner and folding the body inside. It has zippered compartments, which provide about the same amount of space in either mode (760 cubic inches–equivalent to a small day pack).

One way to make your walking workout a little more challenging is to use weights. Holding barbells gets old quickly, and most of the ankle weights I’ve seen are clunky and awkward, but these “anatomical leg weights” from Gaiam look like they might work well.

The leg weights are ergonomically shaped, weighted sleeves that you can slip on under your clothes. You can wear them to walk around the neighborhood or you take them to work or put them on just to do chores around the house. They weigh 4 pounds each and come in three different sizes, so you can get a set that fits nicely. The weights cost $80 for a set.

The Automatic Golf Tee from Hammacher Schlemmer makes it so all you have to do is swing.

Designed for both lefties and righties, the automatic tee can be purchased online for $50. It sounds like a great idea for a Father’s Day gift, if you have a golfer in the family.
